Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of risk factors including central obesity, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and insulin resistance, which increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Elderly are particularly high risk to metabolic syndrome due to physiological changes and lifestyle patterns. This community service program aimed to enhance the knowledge of the elderly regarding healthy lifestyles and the management of metabolic syndrome through educational interventions held in Kelurahan Tanjungrejo, Malang. The program initiated with a situational analysis, followed by coordination with stakeholders, presentation, blood pressure and waist circumference measurements, and ended with an evaluation using a pre-post test design. The program was held alongside the elderly exercise. The results
indicated an increase in the average score, rising from 55.2 in the pre-test to 75.6 in the post-test. Additionally, 55% of participants were identified with hypertension and 81% had a waist circumference greater than 80 cm, indicating a high risk of metabolic syndrome. This program successfully improved the elderly’s knowledge and facilitated early detection of metabolic syndrome. As a result of this program, it is expected that the elderly will adopt and maintain healthy lifestyle practices to prevent non-communicable diseases and associated complications.
